When an individual becomes eligible for Medicare A and B, they are given an ICEP to choose supplimental coverage/Medicare Advantage(replacement) and/or Medicare Part D drug Coverage.

The Period of Time is 3 months prior to their effective date with Medicare A & B, the month of and up to 3 months after.

Example. Member is entitled to Medicare A and Enrolled in Medicare B effective 7/1/10. their ICEP starts 4/1/10 and end 10/31/10. This the time frame they are allowed by medicare to sign up for additional insurance.

This is a one time election for people to choose insurance outside of Medicare's Open enrollment period which is called AEP(Annual Election Period) which as of 2011 will run OCtober 15th to Decemeber 7th. (For January 1st 2012 effective date)
